Project Description
Development of a new 28-hectare mining concession , requiring complete site preparation before the 2025 summer mining season. The scope included clearing 18 hectares of boreal forest and permafrost taiga, excavating and pushing approximately 320,000 m³ of overburden (frozen silt, gravel, and bedrock) to expose the gold-bearing pay layer, constructing a 2.5 km internal haul road network, and building a 4-hectare tailings containment area with proper drainage grading. Total project window: April–September 2025 (the brief 4–5 month warm season before permafrost re-freezes).
Procurement Trigger
Alexey had been operating two leased 330HP dozers (Shantui SD32 units from a Yakutsk rental yard) for his existing concession, but when he secured the new 28-hectare concession in late 2023, the rental yard quoted him $2,400/day for a 500HP+ machine — and had no 600HP units available at all. With the new concession requiring significantly more overburden removal (320,000 m³ vs. 90,000 m³ on his existing site), he calculated that a 600HP dozer was essential — smaller machines would take 2–3x longer to move frozen overburden, and the short Yakutian summer (May–August) left zero margin for delay. He decided to purchase his own 600HP dozer rather than continue depending on scarce local rentals.
Pain Point 1: Extreme Operating Conditions
Yakutsk region is the coldest inhabited area on Earth. Winter temperatures drop to -50°C to -55°C. The ground is continuous permafrost — frozen solid 8–9 months of the year. Mining can only happen during the brief warm season (May–August), when the active layer (top 1–3 meters) thaws enough to excavate. This means all 320,000 m³ of overburden must be moved in roughly 100–120 working days. Any equipment failure or underpowered machine that slows progress directly costs the entire season — if the overburden isn’t cleared by September, the ground refreezes and the project is delayed an entire year.
The cost of failure: Alexey’s concession license requires mining activity to commence by 2025 or face revocation and loss of the $180,000 concession purchase cost.
Pain Point 2: 600HP Power Requirement — No Local Supply
Local equipment rental yards in Yakutsk and the broader Far East region had zero 600HP-class dozers available. The largest machines available for rent were 330–360HP units, which Alexey had already determined were underpowered for his new site’s overburden depth (up to 4.5 meters in sections). He needed genuine 600HP (440+ kW) output to push frozen overburden efficiently in single passes. The only way to get that power was to purchase.

The mine site is 480 km south of Yakutsk. The nearest authorized service point for any Western brand (Caterpillar, Komatsu) is in Yakutsk or even Khabarovsk — 2–3 days of travel for parts. 3. Cold Weather Package Available as Factory Option

4. Delivery Timeline — Could Still Make the 2024 Season
